Senior Managers Of Kazakh Nurbank Suspected Of Fraud

February 06, 2007

February 6, 2007 -- Kazakh police say they are investigating the former chairman of the board of commercial bank Nurbank, Abilmazhen Gilimov, and a deputy on suspicion of fraud.

The chief of financial police in Almaty, Vladimir Kurbatov, today said Gilimov was being questioned by police, while Zholdas Timraliev was in hiding.

On February 5, Gilimov's and Timraliev's wives said they had not returned home since the end of January.

They said their husbands quit Nurbank after disagreeing with the man who controls the bank, Rakhat Aliev.

The two wives accused Aliev, who is also President Nursultan Nazarbaev's son-in-law, of involvement in their abduction.
