Iran Reports 14 Troops Killed In Helicopter Crash

February 26, 2007

February 26, 2007 -- Iran's Revolutionary Guards said today that 14 military personnel were killed in a helicopter crash during a recent operation against Kurdish rebels.

A statement says the operation took place near the town of Khoy, about 50 kilometers from the Turkish border.

The Revolutionary Guards had earlier said that 17 rebels were killed in the operation.

The Iranian Kurdish rebel group Party of Free Life of Kurdistan (PJAK) claims it shot down the helicopter.
