March 17, 2007 -- Voters in the Czech village of Trokavec overwhelmingly voted against U.S. plans to build part of a missile-defense system at a nearby army base.

In a nonbinding vote, 71 voted against the missile-defense system and one voted in favor.

The vote will have only symbolic value. The Czech government has refused to hold a national referendum on the issue.

The United States wants to deploy missile interceptors in Poland and a radar-tracking system in the Czech Republic.
