UN Urges Tajikistan To Improve Access To Justice

DUSHANBE, April 28, 2007 (RFE/RL) -- The United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights is calling on Tajikistan to do more to ensure wider access to justice in the country, RFE/RL reported.

Louise Arbour, in Dushanbe for talks with officials including President Emomali Rahmon, said on April 27 that Tajikistan should allow local and international monitors to visit places of detention.


Tajikistan is the second stop on Arbour's four-nation tour of Central Asia. Before visiting Dushanbe, Arbour was in Kyrgyzstan.
