May 07, 2007

May 7, 2007 -- At least three police officers and three suspected militants have been killed in a gun battle in Chechnya.

Chechen Interior Ministry spokesman Magomed Deniyev today said police clashed with the suspected militants on May 6 near the village of Khatani, in Chechnya's southern Vedeno district.

Chechnya has been devastated by two wars pitting Moscow against Chechen separatist rebels. The conflict continues to claim lives on both sides on an almost daily basis.
