At Least Two Injured In South Ossetia Clashes

May 13, 2007

(RFE/RL)

May 13 2007 -- At least two people were injured overnight when violence erupted in the breakaway Georgian region of South Ossetia.

Officials said the clashes occurred at two ethnic Georgian villages on the evening of May 12, injuring a Georgian police officer and a resident of South Ossetia.

The violence came a day after South Ossetian authorities blockaded ethnic Georgian villages in the area and demanded that the central government withdraw interior ministry security forces.
