June 20, 2007 -- Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan has reportedly said that his government will authorize a cross-border military operation into northern Iraq to crack down on Kurdistan Workers Party fighters if it is deemed necessary.

The Reuters news agency quotes Erdogan as saying the issue continues to be discussed.

Ankara has repeatedly called on U.S. and Iraqi authorities to do more to curb activities of the outlawed PKK.

Ankara says the rebels are using bases in Iraq's mainly Kurdish north to attack targets inside Turkey.
