June 23, 2007 -- U.S. and Iraqi forces say they have killed 90 Al-Qaeda fighters in the past five days during a major combined offensive against the Sunni Islamist group.

Thousands of U.S. and Iraqi soldiers are taking part in simultaneous offensives in areas around Baghdad to deny Al-Qaeda militants sanctuary to launch attacks.

In other news, the U.S. military said today that five of its soldiers were killed in two separate roadside bombing incidents in Iraq.
