Ethnic Georgians Confront Russians In South Ossetia

June 28, 2007

June 28, 2007 -- An angry group of ethnic Georgians has confronted Russian peacekeeping forces in Georgia's separatist region of South Ossetia, throwing gasoline and paint on them.

The incident occurred after Russian peacekeepers deployed armored vehicles near the village of Tsunar to block construction on a road project which they said had not been approved by the command of the joint peacekeeping forces in the region.

Reports say the crowd dispersed and the Russian forces withdrew after Georgian peacekeepers arrived on the scene.
