Turkmenistan Publishes Law On Presidential Powers
July 04, 2007
July, 4, 2007 -- Turkmenistan has for the first time published a law spelling out the president's powers and duties.
The law, printed in government media today, says the president has the right to name the cabinet, the armed forces' top officers, and, with the legislature's approval, the Supreme Court's chief justice and the prosecutor-general.
According to the law, Turkmen presidents can only be removed by the country's parliament.
