September 9, 2007 -- The U.S. military says its forces have killed a militant linked to Al-Qaeda who masterminded attacks that claimed hundreds of lives in Iraq last month.

Military spokesman Rear Admiral Mark Fox said Abu Muhammad al-Asri, also known as Abu Jassa, was killed in an air strike 70 kilometers southwest of the northern city of Mosul.

The bomb attacks against the Yezidi religious minority killed more than 400 people in northern Iraq on August 14.
