September 23, 2007 (RFE/RL) -- The Kazakh and Turkmen leaders are heading to the United States to address the United Nations General Assembly.

RFE/RL's Kazakh Service reports that President Nursultan Nazarbaev is due to make a speech at the General Assembly and meet members of the U.S. business community during his September 24-26 visit to New York.

The Kazakh Foreign Ministry has said the president will then travel to Brazil for his first state visit there, on September 26-30, to help advance Kazakhstan's foreign and economic policy interests in South America.

On his way to New York, Nazarbaev was expected to make a stopover in France.

On September 26, Turkmenistan's leader, Gurbanguly Berdymukhammedov, will become the first Turkmen president to address the UN General Assembly.

He is also due to meet with U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice and U.S. business leaders during his five-day stay.
