Belarusian shot-putter Nadzeya Ostapchuk has been stripped of her gold medal from the London Olympic Games after officials ruled she tested positive for a banned steroid.

The International Olympic Committee said that samples Ostapchuk gave the day before and the day after her competition both tested positive for the steroid metenolone.

Ostapchuk's disqualification means that the shot-put gold medal will go to Valerie Adams of New Zealand.

Russia's Yevgenia Kolodko will take the silver and China's Gong Lijiao gets the bronze.

Belarus's medals total was reduced to 12, including two gold medals.
