EU: The European Parliament's plenary session opens in Strasbourg  (to January 16).

Turkmenistan: U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asian Affairs Nisha Desai Biswal visits Ashgabat (to January 15).

U.S./Iran: The U.S. Institute of Peace (USIP) and the non-profit Partnership for a Secure America (PSA) host a briefing on Capitol Hill titled "A Report From Inside Iran With Robin Wright."

U.S./RussiaU.S. Secretary of State John Kerry and Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov meet in Paris to discuss the Iranian role in Syrian peace talks.

TUESDAY, January 14:

Hungary/Russia: Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban meets with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow.

Ukraine20th anniversary of the Trilateral Agreement between Ukraine, Russia, and the United States under which Ukraine agreed to transfer all former Soviet strategic nuclear warheads to Russia for dismantlement.

World: Heritage Foundation and "The Wall Street Journal" release their annual Index of Economic Freedom.

WEDNESDAY, January 15:

KyrgyzstanMayoral elections in Kyrgyzstan's two biggest cities, Bishkek and Osh.

Middle East: Kuwait hosts the Second International Humanitarian Pledging Conference for Syria.
Russia: Moscow hosts a conference titled "Russia and the World: Sustainable Development" within the framework of the Gaidar Forum (to January 18).

UK/Pakistan: Chatham House in London hosts a discussion titled "Pakistan: Implications of the Afghanistan Drawdown."

THURSDAY, January 16:

FRIDAY, January 17:

Asia: India hosts the Senior Officials Meeting of the Heart of Asia/Istanbul Process.
