Former Russian Police Officer Faces Trial For Serial Killings

A former Russian police officer in Siberia will face trial on charges of serial killing in connection with the deaths of 22 women.

Russian Investigative Committee spokesman Vladimir Markin said on May 14 that the investigations into 50-year-old Mikhail Popkov had been completed and that it has been sent to the Prosecutor-General's Office for trial in the near future.

Investigators allege that Popkov went on a killing spree between 1994 and 2000, murdering women in the Irkutsk region.

Popkov was arrested in 2012 after a series of DNA tests that police say linked him to the crimes.
