Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif says he looks forward to meeting with his Indian counterpart to "make a new beginning" in relations between the two South Asian rivals.
Sharif told the UN General Assembly on September 27 that Islamabad and New Delhi have wasted massive resources on an arms race.
"The entire region would benefit from our cooperation," he said.
Sharif is expected to meet Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on September 29 on the sidelines of the annual gathering of world leaders in New York.
It would be their first meeting since Sharif, who served two terms as prime minister before he was ousted in 1999, was reelected in May.
In his speech to the UN General Assembly Friday, Sharif also urged the United States to stop drone strikes in Pakistan.
