Iranian Leader Urges Arms For Palestinians

Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has accused Israel of committing "genocide" in the Gaza Strip and urged Muslims to arm Palestinians.

In a speech in Tehran on July 29 marking the Muslim festival of Eid al-Fitr, Khamenei said Israel is acting like a "rabid dog" and "a wild wolf" and causing a human catastrophe in Gaza.

Three weeks of fighting between Israel and the Hamas militant group has killed at least 1,072 Palestinians, while 52 Israeli soldiers have died and three civilians have been killed by rockets.

Khamenei dismissed talk of a cease-fire, saying Hamas should be re-armed, rather than disarmed as otherwise they will be "unable to defend themselves."

Iran does not recognize Israel's existence and supports Palestinian groups that fight it.
