Detained French Reporter Freed In Iraq

x
Iraq has freed a French journalist after weeks of detention for taking unauthorized pictures in Baghdad.

Officials said Nadir Dendoune and his translator were freed on February 14.

French Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius said he was "pleased" that Dendoune and his Iraqi translator Haqi Muhammad were freed.

He said that French diplomats had secured their release.

Dendoune was taken to the French Embassy after being released.

The two men were detained in Baghdad on January 23 for allegedly photographing restricted security buildings without the necessary permission.

Earlier, the New York-based Committee to Protect Journalists had called on Baghdad to release Dendoune.
