Reporters Without Borders announced the initiative on September 4, saying that it is providing the assistance so that independent news websites that are targeted by cyber-attacks and government blocking can continue posting information online.

Among the first sites to be mirrored are those of the Chechen magazine Dosh

A list of other sites that RWB plans to mirror is here.

The group has called on Internet users around the world to take up similar initiatives in solidarity to keep information access and exchange open and free.
