Azeri Bloggers: Next Phase, Isolation

Azerbaijan -- Bloggers Emin Milli and Adnan Hajizade behind bars, 09Oct2009
TEXT SIZE - +
The Azeri bloggers Adnan Hajizade and Emin Milli have been transferred from the investigation facility in the capital city Baku where they have been held since June 2009 to prisons elsewhere in the country, RFE/RL's Azeri service reports.

On April 10 Adnan Hajizade was delivered to  Prison number 14 in Guzdek, a settlement outside Baku. Emin Milli was delivered to a prison in Salyan, a city in the country's central region.

The Guzdek prison is notorious for its bad conditions and has a reputation for housing prisoners charged with committing grave crimes.

Both prisons are far from Baku.  The bloggers' lawyers say the move will separate the bloggers, subject them to harsher conditions and complicate efforts by their families and legal counsel to sustain contact.
