District Judge And Family Murdered, Beheaded In Kharkiv

Updated

A judge in Kharkiv, Ukraine and three members of his family have been murdered -- all of them beheaded.

Interfax quotes authorities who say the headless body of the district judge -- along with his wife, his 20-year-old son and his daughter-in-law -- were found at the judge's apartment on December 15.

ITAR-TASS reports the younger woman was the girlfriend of the judge's son.

A spokesman for the Interior Ministry's Kharkiv regional department said the murders appear to have been committed on the morning of December 15.

Investigators say they have not ruled out that the motive is linked with the judge's work.

RFE/RL's Ukrainian Service correspondent in Kharkiv reports the judge was from the city's Frunze district -- not the Kharkiv court where jailed ex-Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko faces trial.

Based on reporting by Interfax and ITAR-TASS

RFE/RL has been declared an "undesirable organization" by the Russian government.
