A celebrity magazine in Kazakhstan is under fire for devoting its latest issue to Adolf Hitler.

Kazakhstan's State Agency for Communications and Information said on April 18 that it is undertaking "necessary measures" regarding "Zhuldyzdar Otbasy-Anyz Adam" (The Family of Celebrities-Legendary People).

The agency said it is investigating the magazine for possible violations of Kazakhstan's constitution and the country's law against "inciting social, national, tribal, racial, or religious hatred."

The issue carries a color photograph of Hitler on its cover and contains memories of Hitler by his associates and friends. It also includes excerpts from Hitler's "Mein Kampf."

Articles in the issue contain such headlines as "Hitler is not a Fascist," "Who is Hitler to You?" and "Hitler is the Main War Criminal Of WWII."

Comments by Kazakh historians, analysts, and social activists in the magazine give contradicting assessments of Hitler's role in history.

The 25,000-circulation magazine has yet to comment on the controversy.
