Russian Soccer Star Arshavin Joins Kazakh Club


Russian soccer star Andrei Arshavin has joined Kazakh club Kairat Almaty.

Kairat Almaty's website said on March 18 that Arshavin had signed a one-year contract with an option for a one-year extension.

Arshavin, 34, is well known for his achievements in soccer. He has scored 17 goals in 74 matches for Russia and helped Russia's national team to the semifinals of Euro 2008.

A native of Russia's second-largest city, St. Petersburg, Arshavin started his soccer career at the Zenit St. Petersburg in 1999.

In 2009, he joined Arsenal, in England, where he spent four years before returning to Zenit in 2013.

Arshavin's contract with Russian club Kuban Krasnodar, signed in 2015, ended on February 1.
