Kosovo's Prime Minister Hashim Thaci has urged the United States to "support" Pristina in its refusal to grant further concessions to its Serbian minority.

In a statement on February 27, Thaci called on U.S. Deputy State Secretary William Burns to show "support" for Pristina's stance not to grant the Serbian minority rights that could "undermine the constitution and internal order."

Thaci's call comes ahead of the next round of EU-mediated talks with his Serbian counterpart, Ivica Dacic, in Brussels next month, aimed at normalizing ties between Serbia and its former province.

Kosovo's Albanian majority unilaterally declared independence from Serbia in 2008, a move that Belgrade and Kosovo's ethnic Serbs have rejected.
