Four activists from Ukraine's Femen movement have stopped traffic during a naked antiexploitation protest in Zurich.

On November 10, the demonstrators stood at a central intersection in the Swiss city wearing labels with a price tag saying: "$5.99 dollars, made in Ukraine."

Surrounded by photographers, they blocked the road in the area where prostitutes often operate, shouting "Women aren't merchandise."

Many prostitutes in Switzerland come from poor Eastern European and Latin American countries.

The women arrived in Switzerland at the end of October for a tour of Europe which has included a stop outside the Paris home of former International Monetary Fund chief Dominique Strauss-Kahn and a topless protest against "Papal patriarchy" at the Vatican.

Femen has around 300 members in Kyiv.

So now these Ukraine loons are now protesting in Zurich on how badly East European women are being treated in the West .....seems to me they could do more for these people if they stayed in the Ukraine and protested against the conditions that FORCED these people to seek a better life in the West.

I also wonder how long these bare breasted protests would last in the Ukraine before the police shut them down. Seems they are only brave enough to flaunt themselves in the more progressive and forgiving West. I suggest they 'Man Up' and do their thing in Turkmanistan or Uzbekistan or even Belarus, what say girls do you have REAL conviction of spirt or are you just some bunch of attention grabbers.

As to your first paragraph - you have a good, valid point.

As to you second paragraph - they do protest in Ukraine, quite often, they keep protesting, and, unfortunately, they have been arrested many, many times in Ukraine, while protesting for free speech and women's rights, and other causes. But they keep on doing their work.

I have no problem of protesting for anyones rights and improvement, but, I do not see were this group is doing any good for the women of the 'East' by protesting in the 'West'. Going topless in the Vatican and stopping traffic in Zurich is not going to change anything in the Ukraine, or anyother 'Eastern' country. As far as their Vatican protest it only shows a level of disrespect that insults the people they hope to bring to their cause. I have no repect for anyone who attacks anothers faith or beliegf.
Go home or go to any of the 'Stan' countries and protest were the problem starts and may be people would take them serious instead of seeing them as attenion lovers.

1) The FEMEN girls do protest in Ukraine.

2) As the article points out, many women who turn to prostitution in Switzerland or in Italy, under the Vatican's nose, come from poor Eastern European countries.

3) The problem doesn't "stop" in the "stan" countries - it continues in Italy and Switzerland.

4) Given the Berlusconi scandals in Italy, it seems that the people in Italy and at the Vatican would do well to listen to the message of the FEMEN girls..

I don't get how people are constantly railing against prostitution. Everybody sells "something" for money, be it their bodies (ex: mine workers, factory workers, prostitutes), minds, time, or souls (ex: politicians?).

Prostitutes, especially independents, make a HECK of a lot more money than I do per hour. If they want to engage in prostitution, just stfu and let them.

As for these Ukrainian protesters, do they have the mandate of the world's sex workers? Or, are they just grandstanding for a feminist agenda?

I do not believe that the whole prostitution and sex traficking thing can only be explained by 'poverty'. It is as much the result of a mentality that makes certain categories of women receptive to it, i.e. the media promoting pornification, easy as unrealistic glamour, easy money; the social degeneration etc... All, of course, what else is new, the brilliant outcomes of neoliberalism and secularism.

The emergence of a massive demand side has been facilitated by the disaster of feminism: the destruction of the family, the distress in relations between the sexes, the pathological selfishness and lesbianisation among Western women, etc....

Things like Femen and other feminists stints are part of an outdated and self-discredited movement. True women's liberation is only going to come through Islam.
