QUETTA, Pakistan -- A bomb planted on a motorbike has killed seven people and wounded at least 30 in a crowded Pakistani market in the troubled southwestern province of Balochistan.

The Jafarabad district police chief, Israr Ahmad, told RFE/RL that nobody had claimed responsibility for the attack on March 22.

Balochistan, Pakistan's largest province, borders Afghanistan and Iran and has experienced a spike in sectarian killings in recent years as radical Sunni Muslims have targeted Shi'a.

The province is also the scene of a decades-long insurgency by Baluchi nationalists, who demand greater autonomy and a larger share of profits from the region's oil, natural gas, and other mineral resources.
