Pakistan is marking the fifth anniversary of the assassination of former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto.
Bhutto, who was twice elected Pakistan’s prime minister, was killed in a gun and suicide bomb attack on December 27, 2007, in Rawalpindi, the headquarters city of Pakistan’s military.
No one has been convicted for the killing.
At the time of her death, Bhutto was campaigning for elections as head of the opposition Pakistan Peoples Party.
Her death is expected to be commemorated in a speech at the Bhutto family mausoleum in Larkana by Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, the son of Bhutto and current Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari.
The speech has been described as a launch event for Bilawal Zardari’s political career.
Bilawal Zardari is co-chairman of the Pakistan People’s Party, alongside his father.
