Pakistan's military says its forces killed 23 more militants in the North Waziristan tribal area bordering Afghanistan as Islamabad continues its offensive to clear the region of Taliban fighters and their foreign allies.
The military said in a June 19 statement that helicopter gunship attacks on insurgent sanctuaries in the Zartatangi Mountains killed 15 fighters and destroyed "a [terrorist] communication center."
The statement said in a separate attack that Pakistani troops killed eight Uzbek militants near Miranshah, North Waziristan's main city.
The Uzbek militants were reportedly trying to plant a roadside bomb.
Pakistan's military claims to have killed more than 200 militants in North Waziristan since the military operation started on June 15.
And more than 100,000 residents are estimated to have fled the area since preliminary bombing began last month, with thousands of families crossing into Afghanistan.
