DERA ISMAIL KHAN, Pakistan -- Police and hospital sources in Pakistan say militants have killed two election-campaign workers and injured three others in the volatile Khyber Pakhtunkwa Province.

The shooting took place in the Dera Ismail Khan district on April 15.

No group initially claimed responsibility for the attack.

There are conflicting reports about which candidate or political party the election campaigners were working for.

The attack comes a day after a local politician from the secular Awami National Party was killed by a roadside bomb in the Swat Valley, also located in Khyber Pakhtunkwa.

Due to an increase in election-related violence, interim Prime Minister Mir Hazar Khan Khoso last week ordered a tightening of security for all candidates in the May 11 general elections.

RFE/RL has been declared an "undesirable organization" by the Russian government.
