RFE/RL's Esfandiari Tells Sky News Iranians Remain Frustrated

TEXT SIZE - +
(LONDON -- June 25, 2009) RFE/RL's Golnaz Esfandiari told Sky News today that, although large-scale protests and demonstrations may be dying down in Iran, high levels of tension and frustration remain.

"I don't think we are seeing apathy," she told host Andrew Wilson. "There is a lot of anger. Iranians have seen images of Neda dying in front of the camera and other young people who have been killed by the Basijis. They have been brutally beaten up. The government has been using a lot of force in the crackdown and people have been detained. So there is fear -- but I think we are seeing also that below the ashes there is still fire."
