Austrian Police Arrest Siberia Murder Suspect

A Russian citizen wanted in his homeland for alleged involvement into four murders has been arrested in Austria.

Vienna police spokesman Mario Hejl says the 38-year-old suspect was arrested on February 26.

He was identified only as Anatoly R., in keeping with Austrian privacy laws.

The Russian Interior Ministry's regional branch in Siberia identified the suspect as Anatoly Radchenko, and said he is suspected of leading an organized criminal group that killed four people between 1977 and 2004 in the city of Novosibirsk.

Investigators say the group was also involved in at least one attempted murder and several other crimes.

The investigation of the alleged criminal group, launched in 1999, made headlines after several local officials, including a former Novosibirsk deputy mayor, were arrested as suspects.
