Russian Completes Solo Rowing Trip Across Pacific

A Russian adventurer, who has been on a solo rowing trip across the Pacific Ocean since December, has completed his crossing.

Fyodor Konyukhov reached the Australian resort city of Mooloolaba on May 31 to successfully finish the 160-day voyage that began at the Chilean port of Concon on December 22 2013.

Konyukhov, 62, is an artist by profession. He has in the past climbed Mount Everest, sailed solo across the Atlantic, and completed several trips to the North Pole.

Konyukhov says he is considering a nonstop flight in a balloon around the world.

Sponsors for the 17,000-kilometer journey included the Russian Geographical Society and the Russian state-run news agency ITAR-TASS.
