Russian Diplomat, Wife Injured In Sudan Stabbing

Officials say a Russian diplomat and his wife have been stabbed and injured in Sudan’s capital.

A statement from Khartoum police said the couple were in stable condition following the incident on January 28 at the Russian Embassy gates.

The statement said the suspect, who was detained by Russian Embassy guards and passers-by, is from the conflict-hit Central African Republic.

It said the man was anguished after learning that his brother had been killed due to the violence plaguing the country and wanted to take revenge on a Westerner.

France has deployed troops to the Central African Republic, and the European Union has approved sending troops there, but Russia has no soldiers in the country.

Russian Embassy officials have confirmed that the diplomat and his wife had been injured.
