Russian Ice Hockey Coach Mikhalyov Dies In Car Crash


A veteran Russian ice hockey coach, Sergei Mikhalyov, died in a car accident on April 21.

Mikhalyov was head coach of the Salavat Yulayev club in Ufa, the capital of Russia's Republic of Bashkortostan, in 1987-1990 and 2005-2009.

He had been general manager of the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL) club since February.

Salavat Yulayev said on its website that Mikhalyov, 67, was killed when the car he was riding in was involved in an accident in the Chelyabinsk region.

It said Mikhailov was returning from the funeral of another veteran ice hockey coach, Valery Belousov, who died on April 16 at the age of 66.
