BISHKEK -- Scores of people have demonstrated at the Belarusian Embassy in the Kyrgyz capital, Bishkek, demanding the extradition from Belarus of former President Kurmanbek Bakiev and his brother, Janysh.

The protesters presented their demands to Belarusian Ambassador Viktar Denisenka.

At the end of August, the Belarusian Prosecutor-General's Office announced it had rejected a request from Kyrgyzstan for the extradition of Janysh Bakiev, saying it was "politically motivated."

The Bakiev brothers are being tried in absentia in Kyrgyzstan in connection with the deaths of nearly 100 people during the April 2010 uprising against the former president's rule.

In late August, protesters pelted the Belarusian Embassy with rocks and broke windows and caused unspecified damage in a call for Janysh Bakiev's handover.
