The son of a prominent Uzbek cleric who was severely wounded in a shooting attack in Sweden three years ago says he has been threatened.
Obidkhon Qori Nazarov has been in the hospital since he was shot in Stromsund, Sweden, in February 2012.
Nazarov, who was granted political asylum in Sweden in 2006, is considered one of the most powerful opponents of Uzbek President Islam Karimov's government.
His son, Dovudkhon Nazarov, told RFE/RL on February 22 that agents of Uzbekistan's national security service had threatened him recently, sending intimidating messages via his relatives in Uzbekistan.
Nazarov said that Swedish police provide "limited security" for him and his family and that they have been moving from place to place in Sweden to avoid being targeted.
Two Uzbek nationals suspected in the attack against Nazarov were tried and acquitted in Sweden in July 2013.
Another Uzbek suspect was reportedly detained in Russia in 2012, but that has not been officially confirmed.
