Taliban Release Teachers, Students Kidnapped In Kandahar

The Taliban has released 37 teachers and eight students who were kidnapped on June 10 in eastern Ghazni Province.

The Kandahar governor's office said the group was freed after tribal elders in Ghazni entered into negotiations with the Taliban to free the hostages.

The group -- who were from Kandahar State University -- was aboard a bus traveling from Kandahar to Kabul that was attacked by the Taliban.

The Taliban then divided the group and took the hostages to various locations in Ghazni Province.

The Taliban also confirmed the release of the captives.
