A Ukrainian man has pleaded not guilty in federal court in New Jersey to charges he operated a network of child-pornography websites.

Maksym Shynkarenko, 33, of Kharkiv, Ukraine faces 32 counts for allegedly operating numerous Ukraine-based child-pornography sites and selling access to clients worldwide.

The indictment says he traded in tens of thousands of hard-core pornographic images and videos that depicted children ranging from infants to toddlers to teenagers being sexually assaulted and abused.

Shynkarenko was detained in Thailand in 2009 and extradited to the United States last weekend.

He is facing charges in New Jersey because federal prosecutors discovered the websites on a computer there.

New Jersey District Attorney Paul Fishman said, "Shynkarenko profited from the unspeakable abuse of thousands of innocent children by selling access to their suffering through his website."

Prosecutors say 560 U.S.-based customers have also been convicted.

If convicted of all charges, Shynkarenko could face a life in prison.
