The U.S. Embassy in Kazakhstan has confirmed that volunteers from the group Peace Corps will leave Kazakhstan due to safety concerns.

U.S. officials said the Peace Corps would release a statement giving its reasons for the withdrawal of its personnel from that country, which has seen a worsening security situation in the form of deadly bombings in October and November.

A double bombing in the western city of Atyrau on October 31 and a terrorist attack in the southern city of Taraz on November 12 killed seven people.

The Peace Corps, a U.S. agency established in 1961, has 121 volunteers currently working in Kazakshtan.
