Uzbekistan is reportedly set to introduce a regulation that would ban artists from releasing new songs and albums without first receiving official approval.
Under the regulation, an artist would be required to obtain authorities' approval to record any new song.
The licenses will be issued by Uzbeknavo, a state agency that controls the country's music industry.
RFE/RL quotes sources at Uzbeknavo as saying the measure is aimed at "getting rid of silly songs."
Artists would be required to pay Uzbeknavo some $35 as a license fee for each song.
The regulation is expected to be officially announced in June.
Under a separate regulation adopted previously, artists in Uzbekistan are required to obtain a license to work as professional performers.
Unlicensed artists are banned from performing in concerts, on radio and television, at weddings, and at all public functions.
