Woman Believed To Be World's Oldest Person Dies In Brazil

TEXT SIZE - +
A Brazilian woman listed by Guinness World Records as the world's oldest person has died at the age of 114.

Reports said Maria Gomes Valentim passed away on June 21 from multiple organ failure, just weeks before she would have turned 115 on July 9.

Valentim, who died at the age of 114 years and 347 days, has attributed her longevity to what was described as a healthy diet -- bread, fruit, and coffee every morning.

Valentim's family told reporters that she also had a stubborn streak and always made a habit of minding her own business.

With Valentim's death, the title of the world's oldest person is now held by Besse Cooper from the U.S. state of Georgia, who is just 48 days younger than Valentim.
