Alexander Lukashuk is the Director of RFE/RL’s Belarus service. Since joining RFE/RL 1993, Alexander, in addition to his role as Director of the Belrusian service, has served as Director of Radio Free Afghanistan (2004-2005) and as acting Executive Editor (2007). Born in Belarus, he graduated from Minsk Linguistic University, worked as a translator, journalist, and documentary script-writer, and served as Editor-in-chief of the Belarus publishing house. Between 1990 and 1995, Alexander participated in the parliamentary commission on the crimes of Joseph Stalin.

Alexander has authored five award-winning books on Belarusian history, including “The Adventures of ARA in Belarus” on the American relief operation in the USSR in 1920s.
