The contents of the resolution were not immediately clear. But diplomatic sources say the resolution is expected to address the handover of power from the United States to an interim Iraqi government on 30 June, as well as the role of the United Nations.
The reports come as U.S. President George W. Bush is scheduled to give a speech later today on his plans for the future of Iraq.
In the latest fighting, the U.S. military says troops killed 32 insurgents at a mosque compound in the holy Shi'ite city of Kufa yesterday. The U.S. military said troops raided the Sahla Mosque after coming under fire from supporters of radical Shi'ite cleric Muqtada al-Sadr. No U.S. casualties were reported.
In the nearby city of Al-Najaf, hospital officials say U.S. forces killed 14 Iraqis in clashes yesterday. And in Al-Fallujah, two U.S. soldiers were killed by a car bomb yesterday.
