Russia To Cull Birds To Halt Bird Flu


2 August 2005 (RFE/RL) -Officials in Russia's Novosibirsk Oblast today said that they will kill 65,000 birds in 13 locations as more cases of bird flu have beeb confirmed.

Recently, several central Siberian regions have reported the spread among poultry of the H5N1 bird-flu virus. The virus can be transmitted to humans.

So far, Russian health officials have not registered any cases of humans being infected with bird flu.
