Baghdad Bombs Kill Seven


(RFE/RL) 18 February 2006 -- Violence in Iraq today claimed the lives of six Iraqis and a U.S. soldier.


Iraqi police said a roadside bomb killed three Iraqi civilians and wounded four in Baghdad's eastern Ghadir area.


A second roadside bomb exploded on a highway in eastern Baghdad, killing at least two Iraqi police officers guarding an oil tanker truck and injuring three people.


The U.S. military meanwhile said that another roadside bomb in eastern Baghdad killed a U.S. soldier on patrol.


An Iraqi police major was assassinated by drive-by gunmen in the insurgent stronghold of Al-Ramadi, west of Baghdad.


Also today, police discovered the bodies of two unidentified men, in south and west Baghdad.


In the southern city of Al-Basrah, the British military said today that two men who were kidnapped in the area on 16 February, were Macedonian citizens working in Iraq.
