August 11, 2006 -- Ukrainian Prime Minister Viktor Yanukovych today said that Kyiv must take part in the development of oil and gas fields in Russia, Central Asia, Libya, and the Persian Gulf.
Speaking in Simferopol, he said this is the only way to "secure energy supplies at an optimal price."
Yanukovych on August 10 said his government will respect the two-fold increase in gas tariffs Russia imposed in January after a price dispute that briefly cut supplies to Ukraine and Europe.
