Yanukovych To Visit Russia This Month

August 8, 2006 -- Ukrainian Foreign Minister Boris Tarasyuk said Ukraine's newly appointed prime minister, Viktor Yanukovych, is planning a visit to Russia later this month.


Yanukovych was named prime minister by his rival, President Viktor Yushchenko, on August 3 after a four-month political struggle to form a government.

UP FROM THE ASHES. On August 4, 2006, the Ukrainian legislature ended four months of political standoff by confirming Viktor Yanukovych as prime minister. Yanukovych's pro-Russian Party of Regions won the largest block of seats in the country's inconclusive March legislative elections.
