Iranian-American Scholar Accused Of 'Security' Crimes

May 15, 2007 -- Iran's judiciary says an Iranian-American scholar detained in Tehran last week is being investigated on charges of "acting against national security."

Judiciary spokesman Alireza Jamshidi said the investigation into Haleh Esfandiari's case was ongoing.

Esfandiari, the director of the Woodrow Wilson International Center's Middle East Program in Washington. was taken to Tehran's Evin prison on May 8 after being barred from leaving the country four months ago.
