RFE/RL is a nonprofit organization funded by the U.S. Congress. Corporate headquarters are in Washington D.C., but programming originates from our Prague operational headquarters as well as from bureaus in 19 countries.

We are looking for a Deputy Director for our Corporate Security Department in Prague. Reporting to the Director of Corporate Security, the Deputy Director of Security plays a key role in assisting the Director in protecting RFE/RL's diverse staff, facilities, property, and information in 21 locations. Risk mitigation and vigilance are critical components in RFE/RL's security program, and the Deputy will provide analysis and collaborate with the Director in these and other aspects of the program, and will have specific oversight responsibilities for security operations in RFE/RL's 19 field bureaus. The Deputy will also serve as primary back-up for the Director in case of his absence. He/she actively pursues methods or procedures that will enhance the RFE/RL Corporate Security program and makes those recommendations to the Director.
Responsibilities:
- Acquires and maintains an operational knowledge of all RFE/RL security policies and procedures in order to perform the functions of the Director in his absence.
- Reviews and assesses security posture of RFE/RL regional bureaus and bureau staff, including proactive, local risk analyses and threat assessments, based on external and internal sources. Documents and briefs the Director and senior management as needed. Maintains records of crisis events and potential security issues for future use and best practices.
- Drafts, coordinates and disseminates Security Policies and Procedures for RFE/RL regional bureaus.
- Develops a sustainable training program for RFE/RL regional bureaus; trains bureau staff.
- Coordinates and monitors expenditure of bureau security enhancement funds.
- Develops an active consultation program with US Embassy Regional Security Officers (RSOs), and local security contractors in regional bureau locations. Establishes a working relationship with Czech police at the municipal level.
- Contributes to oversight of security guards contract. Recommends procedural and physical security upgrades and coordinates approval and implementation of the recommended upgrades.
Qualifications:
- Undergraduate degree in a relevant discipline or substantial equivalent experience
- Minimum 7-year security management experience with an international organization or a multinational company
- Security clearance preferred
- Familiarity with US government security practices
- Broad knowledge of RFE/RL broadcast regions and solid grounding in international affairs
- Experience in training
- Proven ability to function effectively in a multicultural environment
- Strong conceptual, planning, writing, analytical, and organization skills
- Ability to represent the organization to external parties and security personnel
- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to listen to and advise employees from a variety of cultures and locations on sensitive security matters
- CPP or PSP certification preferred but not a requirement
- English – native level
- Knowledge of Czech or an RFE/RL broadcasting language considered a plus, however, not a requirement
