RFE/RL (Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty) is an independent, international news and broadcast organization to Eastern and Southeastern Europe, Russia, the Caucasus, the Middle East to include Iran and Iraq Central and Southwest Asia.
Across our broadcast region, more than 30 million people enjoy and rely on RFE/RL programming. Through broadcasts in 28 languages, RFE/RL provides news, information and responsible discussion of domestic and international issues to countries where free and independent media are not permitted or not yet fully established.
RFE/RL is a nonprofit organization funded by the U.S. Congress. Corporate headquarters are in Washington D.C., but programming originates from our Prague operational headquarters as well as from bureaus in 19 countries.
We are looking for an experienced television/video professional to help create multimedia content for RFE/RL websites in 18 countries, 28 languages including English.
This person will be the liaison with RFE/RL Video Journalists in our bureaus from Russia, to the Balkans, Central Asia, the Caucuses, Iraq, Iran and Afghanistan to develop production of video material. This person will work with our Language Services at RFE/RL headquarters in Prague to identify and commission video stories from the bureaus that are of interest to other regions and for the English-language site He/she will oversee story development and final assembly of video news and feature stories at our Prague headquarters.
Reports to the Associate Director of Broadcasting for Visual Media and will also work closely with the English-language website, the Central Newsroom, and the Language Services.
The successful candidate will be journalist with excellent video story-telling experience in short form video for the internet and/or television. He/she needs to be familiar with all phases of production including producing and shooting in the field, as well as having the basic technical knowledge to identify problems with video equipment..
A Russian-speaker is a must as are the skills to mentor and encourage young VJ’s to develop their video abilities.
Qualifications:
•University Degree in Journalism or related degree
•Minimum of 5 years experience in the field of
journalism and video.
•Strong commitment to journalistic objectivity
and integrity.
•Fluent in Russian and English.
•Previous experience producing and managing
journalistic content and creating online
multimedia content.
•Demonstrated capacity to coach, train and lead
multicultural teams.
•Excellent writing skills including scriptwriting.
•Strong interpersonal skills
•Willingness to work long hours and weekends when
necessary.
